Canvas size 23.8 x 19.8 x 2inches. A place I know well, this is a wild garden boggy meadow in SW Scotland. It belonged to close friends and when visiting I would always spend some time there with a sketchbook. In the earlier days this track was not overgrown so much and I was able to put up an easel and do colour studies. Now however it is much overgrown. So this painting is done from those sketchbook studies and from wonderful memories of this very special place. It is painted on a high quality canvas with deep sides and is supplied FRAMED in a contemporary style thin box frame painted a soft white.

The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
