About The Artwork

Traditionally, women are disadvantaged in terms of education, technology and decision making processes, although they play very important role in the agricultural and domestic activities. For this reason, it is very important to educate our girl children to a very high level as depicted at the upper part of this painting. At the lower part of this piece shows a man and a woman. The man in this scene is holding a baby to portray the support the men should give to women. The string instrument and the woman playing saxophone are to emphasize that women should not be discriminated in terms of their choice of work. Allowing women who want to pursue some professions that are traditionally considered to be for men will also help their empowerment.

Artist Statement My artistic style has continuously evolved, revealing our relationship with one another, and the entire biosphere which we inhabit. The quality and the contextual depth of my creations continue to inspire individuals in diverse societies and generations. I express my artistic ideas in abstract, realism, and surrealism. As an artist, who is passionate about colors, I work with diverse media such as oil paint, acrylic paint, oil and chalk pastels, color pencils, and charcoal with a cotton canvas as my preferred working surface. I also use found objects such as plastics, newspapers, et cetera in the form of recycled art to address environmental and sustainability issues. My works bear traces of Ghanaian cultural elements and elements from other cultures around the globe to advocate for intercultural unity. I believe everything on earth is interconnected, and humans are part of that equation. An innovative merger of cultures makes my works transcultural and transnational. Although my creative expressions, as well as my philosophy were influenced by Ghanaian traditional and modernist art, my themes reflect contemporary socio-cultural issues concerning the entire global community. I believe that the audience should not be distanced from the work but must rather be part of it, and one can experience that emotional immersion when looking at my works. Despite my knowledge of painting and other art genres, I have been attracted to the idea of repurposing discarded plastics and other obsolete solid materials into innovative artistic installations. This elevation of discarded used, and obsolete solid items accumulated in the natural environment can greatly contribute to the mitigation of their negative impacts on various compartments of the ecosystem. It also portrays interconnectedness of all earth’s diversity and the environment we inhabit.
