ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"View From the Train" is a painting that was inspired by the transient blur of landscapes one is encompassed in during travel. A scene painted from a faded memory, of an icy February evening traveling through the Ontario-Quebec border. It is an attempt to hold onto an intangible moment fleeting at a moment's notice while posing the question - can we truly hold onto these memories? Or do they become just as distorted as the rapidly moving landscapes, blurred into oblivion? This painting is lightweight and ready to hang. It has a depth of two inches, which hangs beautifully on any wall, however, custom framing is available depending on your taste!

Ariel Shea is a visual artist living in Montreal, Quebec. Ariel is a self-taught painter, using oil paint on canvas, raw silk, and linen. Practicing for seven years, she has dedicated much of that time to define her style. It can be described as a bold, abstract expressionist evocation of landscapes, natural forms, and the nude figure. Ariel continues to experiment with techniques and styles to find her voice. She has shown extensively across Montreal, in galleries such as Erga, Centerfold, and Yellow Fish Gallery. Ariel has also taken part in several “pop up” gallery shows within the city. She participated in her first international show, “Canadian(in)Vision - Short and Loud” which took place in Naples, Italy, January of 2019, and showed work during Nuit Blanche Montreal 2019. Recently, Ariel has shown work online and has participated in charity auctions in lieu of gallery shows as a result of Covid-19. Ariel is currently painting in her home studio and working on a new body of work that incorporates her current style of abstracted landscapes – while challenging the ideas of expressionism.
