Aija Balcere is a Latvian painter based in France. After working for the administration of public authorities, as well as for private companies as a translator, it took an earthquake to initiate change and she decided to turn her life’s passion into her full-time occupation. Taking inspiration from Nicholas de Staël, Gertrude Greene and Maurice Estève, Aija produces works full of colorful motion and contrasting marks. Her motivation is to create paintings that captivate the viewer’s attention and lets them dive into another reality that is beyond the mind’s usual perception. In her artwork, she’s always in the search of a balance. Aija’s creations begin as emotional and intuitive interpretation of the visible world evolving into a meditation on unpredictable life contrasts. Leaving room for freedom of thought, imperfection and abstraction are present in her work to show that aesthetic satisfaction can emerge from a non-structured environment. At times chaotic, tranquil or enchanting, each of her works is a journey into spectator’s own soul’s unlimited possibilities.
