ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In the past few decades, air travel and cruise shipping have continued to grow around the world. The freedom of this mobility seemed unlimited. The worldwide developments and changes in conditions since the beginning of 2020 make one more aware of how fragile this "limitless" freedom is. Despite technological advances, this mobility can currently only be used to a very limited extent. There is also still a great deal of uncertainty as to when and how this situation will improve and in which direction it will develop. In which direction do we want to move in the future? Should wanderlust become a reality or should it remain a dream?

My father showed me the first steps of painting as a child. Art became my hobby in my childhood and youth. In the years of growing up, I saw less sense in painting, had no good ideas and wanted to discover my other skills. I painted my last picture before graduating from school (Abitur) in 2006. In the following years I followed my other interests and studied Management & Economics (B. Sc., M. Sc.). I also attended various advanced training and leisure courses. With the passing years and many different experiences in my life, I was looking for a hobby that would make me personally happy and is not difficult for me. I was inspired by an online article on Forbes. The author recommended remembering own childhood interests and hobbies if you are looking for something that can make you happy and satisfied. In the spring of 2015, I wanted to give my niece something special for her 10th birthday and I painted her during her swimming training. She was successful in swimming as a child with many medals for her achievements. I received a lot of encouragement for the painting and were surprised by my performance, as I had not painted for over 9 years. That has motivated me to paint more paintings as gifts for family and friends. I also noticed that painting is relaxing for me, at the same time it is varied and enriching additional to my full-time analytical job. In the first half of 2017, I attended two acrylic painting courses lasting several weeks to get tips. After that, I decided to go my own way, to learn through independent experience and to develop my skills independently. Each painting is a kind of project where I create something new. The exciting thing is to start with a white canvas and an idea and to have a finished painting at the end. The more I started to paint, the more I became aware that ideas are everywhere. You just have to go through the world attentively and with open eyes. Traveling, getting to know new cultures, people and collecting experiences and impressions are part of my interests. On vacation you have more time to observe the environment and people. In recent years I've been inspired by the photos from my travels, which often capture fleeting moments and therefore don't necessarily look perfect. With my paintings I try to perfect this moment and let it appear harmonious.
