ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In my latest work I am examining the West Coast landscape through printmaking and painting. Through research into west coast history and the environment I’m confronting the impact of colonialism, our history of various industries, and the hungry native foliage ready to reclaim it all. This and the continued gradual declination of buildings, objects, landscape, and other environmental concerns and what this may mean for our memories and place, is the focus of these paintings and prints. My pioneering ancestors are acknowledged in this body of work, their influence can be traced by photographic evidence, by their involvement in surveying and exploration, and farming & mining.

Using native and exotic plants as the base material for my most recent work, I endeavor to align methodology and message in paper-based works featuring varied approaches to printmaking, mark making and dye-application. My subject matter is the small species as a sign of the environment. A guiding principle in my work is to reduce the impact my creative practice has on the environment. I am using soy based ink, natural materials and I make my own inks and dyes.
