ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The initial idea of "Annulation" was caused by the change of the Russian Constitution and annulation of the number of the presidential terms, so the president can be elected again and again. This news was a personal transformative shock for the artist which evoked the image of "Annulation" in my head. However there is no reference to the constitution on the picture. The book is totally open for interpretation. It may be the Bible, it may be a history book and a reference to the history re-writing or a reference to the lack of sexual education. There is no right or wrong answer. It is completely open for the viewers to find their own answer to the questions popping out in the head after engaging with this art work. The chose of colors was defined by my historical and cultural heritage. First of all, red madder on the cover of the book reflects my personal pain and "blood" of the society after the changing the constitution, which will probably lead to the social perturbation. Blue and white motives are my personal reference to the Russian beautiful folk art "gzhel" (blue and white ceramics), which gives the reference to traditional nature. Also golden colors can give the historical reference to the imperialistic heritage of Russia, as an obstacle for progressive development.
