This work is inspired by my mosaics. The female theme and the use of gold and bright colours is influenced by Klimt. Angels have been a frequent element in Western art since the beginning and this theme is important to me. I like experimenting with the contrast of different colours for effect which has given this picture a feeling of awe and wonder.

Kathy Serinturk: I am a mosaic artist and painter living and working on the south coast of England. I am very interested in the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi which is the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. I love the way mosaic takes something broken and makes something beautiful from it. I make mirrors, tables and other mosaic objects including garden plaques and mosaic angels. A few years ago, I was faced with the dilemma that my mosaic angels were too heavy to hang in an exhibition so I started painting them and have now created an exhibition of mosaic angels painted in acrylics. I am heavily influenced by Klimt and use a lot of his colour schemes in my art work. Colour is important to me and I like to experiment with mixing and matching different colour palettes.
