About The Artwork

Having spent some time exploring the rainforests of Brazil I was captivated by the colours and diversity of birdlife. While my favourites are of the Tanager family I have painted a number of other species that I feel appeal to bird-lovers, ornithologists or those keen to decorate their homes with colourful bird pictures. At the end of 2019 I completed a watercolour project comprising 23 A4 sized paintings of the Tanager species that I had seen personally. This Green-headed Tanager was seen in the south of Brazil.

Birds. And Nature. These are the subjects that inspire me. At an early age I loved exploring hedgerows and streams. Teeming with diverse life, they fascinated me. My appreciation of flora and fauna broadened, through travel, to include birds, plants, animals and insects, though birds were always special. I am a British artist and photographer based in Brazil. My nomadic life began in Libya, where I was born, and has taken me to live in 15 countries on 5 continents, visiting 40 or more other countries in my lifetime. Places as diverse as deserts, rainforests and the concrete jungles of city life have been home to me. I remain a keen traveller focusing on commercial Travel / Food photography and writing in addition to painting.  While most of my paintings are in watercolour I also paint in other media. I would describe my style as loose/tight as I like to balance a degree of looseness against the detail found in the key elements of a bird's genus. My aim is to make them recognisable while retaining an element of artistic impressionism.
