About The Artwork

The originals of these paintings are two old flower still lifes from the 17th century (Willem Grasdorp, Jacob Rootius). As a teenager I tore the page out of an antique magazine, which I had gotten from an old carpenter in the village. It is interesting that one of the two paintings was printed in black and white, which seems somehow strange for painting, at the same time it leaves room for interpretation. Something about it captured my interest and I kept the page for years in a folder. Findings, so to speak. I began to disassemble the pictures, to show them only in individual snippets that, seemingly dancing, vaguely quote the original. In a book I stumbled over a sentence given by a young admirer to his much older loved one: "Never stop blooming" (Chirú - Michela Murgia)

Perceptions, aspirations and visions of a generation. - Captured in folkloric variety with the tenderness of a bemused romantic. The attempt to draw a gentle line from Caspar - David Friedrich und Thoreau, up to the transfigured Instagram pictures of the present. Revised pictures of postcard idylls and portraits which facing the distance, celebrate a bold escapism towards nature. Flora and fauna under attention. Associative reflections of music and online imagery, loosely linked with the own biography captured in paintings - filled with clarity, mysticism and vulnerability.
