About The Artwork

In Greek Mythology, Athena, the goddess of wisdom wore the Cap of Invisibility in order to be invisible to supernatural entities as well as her enemies, thus shape-shifting. I play with this notion, this human desire to be invisible, transparent, to transform and be able to go beyond all the seemingly opposing forces in order to access another perspective, a deeper understanding. Each shape/colour is a fragment of sky, taken over the course of a year at the same time of the day, during my travels through the south west of America and Mexico.

Monica Figueredo is a multidisciplinary artist with a B.A in Fine Arts from OCAD University in Toronto, Canada. She has exhibited globally in a variety of media ranging from painting, sculpture, installation and documentary filmmaking. Her multi-ethnic upbringing and her practice as a journey woman, as the peripatetic who maps an alternate world by her journey through it, has exposed her to multitude of cultures, faiths and cosmological knowledge. All of which play a key intuitive role in her creative process through the language of abstraction. The reconciliation of found objects, recycled fabrics and painted canvases made at different times are brought together, offering unexpected encounters and territories of present and future personal mythologies.
