About The Artwork
This work - 48x36 oil on Aluminum shows the cloud breaks of a California landscape scene near San Francisco. It is painted on aluminum re-purposed California freeway sign. “I use a ‘reductive’ methodology in these oil paintings that are painted on steel, copper, or aluminum. I bring the painting to a state of completion in the traditional sense. I then deconstruct it using paint-stripper, metal grinders, power sanding, and blade scraping among other techniques. Then I repaint what remains of the composition, breathing new life back into the work — only to deconstruct it again. This process repeats until the painting and material work together in harmony; comfortable, edgy, contemporary.” Enjoy.

REDUCTIVE OIL PAINTINGS ON SHEET METAL, CANVAS, MASONITE PANELS. My paintings contrast serene landscapes with edgy, textured bits peeking through, creating the glimmer of the sun on the surface of a stream or pond, adding to the luminosity of a cloud or sky and bringing energy and balance to each composition. Descended from a family of lawyers, I'm the self described “black sheep” who always knew I wanted to create compelling things. The common thread throughout my career is art. As creative director of my own agency, I designed campaigns for Warner Bros., Disney and Kawasaki, among others. I also design products, one recently featured in the New York Times, is a cinematography device for smart phones, a beautiful, highly functional piece of gear used by filmmakers and institutions throughout the U.S. My work is featured in both corporate and private collections throughout the U.S.
