Pink Pachyderm in Parisian Parlor Print

image area 38x49 inches framed dimensions 47x58 inches I almost lost this piece in an art scam. In Paris recently at the Centre de Pompidou I met new friends Dado, Öyvind Fahlström, Eugène de Kermadec, Bernard Requichot and others. However, one more familiar painter stood out, George Braque. There is a richness and density which renders interiors I want to stay in. He was born into a family of house painters and his work consistently addresses 'decor' but his interest in Cezanne and his time spent plein aire painting along side the Fauves and inventing collage and Cubism alongside Picasso deepened him. Fighting and being gravely injured in the grizzliest of conflicts, WW1, gave him perpective you don't find in the studio. When he finally got back to the easel he was alone and his reach had expanded both outward and inward. The paintings appear to be decorative interiors with flourishes of abstraction and cubist torques on turning space/form but they are also meta fictive psychological interiors ordered to make room for and comfort to a very weary and humble spirit. This is the mission; to give the appearance of something known and through it the opportunity to dig deeper for the nameless ghosts which haunt and guide us.
