Born in London Alex Ekins is a Sheffield based artist and sculptor working in paper, wood, clay and whicker. His work is predominately concerned with examining the strange and inexplicable nature of the human condition and our place in the natural world. Alex’s most recent works are ink on paper figurative depictions and wood sculptures. They represent humanity standing amidst the universe alone and confused. Alex is interested in the idea that somewhere on the edge of our conscious understanding and awareness there is something beyond what we can normally see or understand. Alex also hopes to present the great dignity, joy and imagination inherent in all human nature and to challenge the growing fear of the other in all its forms.
