"An Eclipse of Moths" won the 2022 International Photography Award (IPA) 3rd prize non-professional - editorial/press, contemporary issues, and is part of my multimedia installation "UnNatural Light". As an artist in my fifties, my artistic journey has spanned a diverse array of media—from the tactile processes of xerox machines and analog photography to the digital revolution ushered in by computers and smartphones. Technology, particularly the omnipresent glow of screens, has become a constant companion in our daily lives. My artistic practice has evolved alongside these technological advances, and while I have embraced these tools, my role as a parent has heightened my awareness of their implications. The concept of “screen time” has been a focal point of concern, raising questions about its effects on our well-being, relationships, and awareness of our tangible surroundings. As my children have grown, my unease has persisted, driven by a growing sense that technology and online content consumption are altering our lives - causing a collective “untethering” to the physical world and increased inattention to the spaces we inhabit. A multimedia installation, "UnNatural Light" presents a tableau of projected photographic stills juxtaposed with elements of home and the natural world in an uncluttered, darkened space. Each of the digitally manipulated portraits employ dramatic light and shadow to create heightened visual narratives, inviting the viewer to examine where - and how - their attention is placed in an age increasingly dominated by digital immersion.
