PRINT DESCRIPTION --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Counterpose" The layering of metal plates is the subject of this abstract architectural image. The entire exterior of the Museum of Modern Pop in Seattle is fabricated this way. Isolating the curvatures, I found compelling and the derived mood demurs a deeper secret. The frame keeps you within the movement and somewhat off balance. The long panels are strong, figurative and stately, while the grayness is variegated and filled with punctuated pinholes from meticulous fabrication. This is a compilation of patchwork metal panels that through their elongation stretch the limits of their material and that is perhaps the real appeal, altogether sculptural in application and yet aesthetic in line. Brandon LeValley (1954) is a photographic artist from the United States. In 1976 he graduated from Washington State University where he studied Art. His passion for photography was fueled early in life when he was still shooting film and utilizing a darkroom to process images. Holding a final print offered a world of experience seeing how the light on a subject materialized. Years later he realized the digital camera had revolutionized processing. Today, he converts most images to black and white and shoots botanicals for their dramatic line and shape. He’s also drawn to architecture and landscapes. Living near Joshua Tree National Park provides many compelling compositions that come from his explorations. While his journey in photography has evolved, his passion is still ignited by subject matter. A unique image, he believes, comes about by a disciplined and oftentimes exhaustive approach. Knowing the payoff can be so rewarding, that commitment to detail ultimately renders a more compelling work.
