About The Artwork

Shmuel Lesched Turned 100 years last year. As a young man, he escaped from Germany "before they closed the gates" (his words) in the 1930's. He moved to Israel. When he came here he made up his mind to make people smile at any cost, so he started to play music...street music, dressed as a clown, singing for anyone that will take the time to listen. Some people even give him money and he does not mind being called a bagger. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. He calls himself "DerMusicklown". Now that he is 100, i asked him how long is he going to do that for, And he said "for as long as i can". Shot between light and nowhere. 2nd Prize - Portraits category - Series - "Local Testimony/World Press" - Eretz Israel Museum - Tel Aviv 2011

"A visual feast whilst at the same time a philosophical one, so great. Much of the power is because you've let movement come from within the frame rather than showing off what the drone can do, love that!" - Emily Harris - Film curator at Victoria and Albert museum. My work revolves around "The Subject condition" as social portraits. frames that illuminate my subject's condition or social condition...between comrodary or unity and over to loneliness and misfortune. I take my time trying to figure out how my subjects can portray their condition. Sometimes it takes a second (when all things come together) and sometimes I take my time and wait for it to happen. In some of my work contradiction plays a big role and in other shots it's about harmony.
