About The Artwork

This light blue beach abstract is a calming panorama that fits perfectly in the space over a large couch in the living room or in a large hallway or office. I love the idea of bringing art into the home as if creating a large window to another world and the soft, pastel colors in this piece work very well with neutral color room decor. It would also look beautiful above a bed. The original photograph was made on the Isle of Harris at a little beach called Seilebost using the advanced photography techniques for which I have become known. The sand here is cream and beige and stretches out to the horizon when the tide goes out as if it melts into the horizon. At low ebb, when there is a little mist, the water drifts in streamers across the sand creating puddles of pale blue and pale green that shimmer softly as the sun tries to break through. The image is printed here in my studio here on the Isle of Skye in the wild Scottish Highlands. Our island lies a couple of hours from the other islands of the Outer Hebrides and I often visit Harris and Lewis for a few days to create my images. The canvas I print on is of the highest quality, made in an ancient paper mill that has been making canvas for artists for over 450 years. Degas, Miro and many other artists have used Canson Canvas in the past as it has a beautiful light texture and is bright white. The inks I use are non-fade and the canvas is matte finish which gives it a long life and subtle elegant look. This print is unframed. The canvas is printed with 2 inches of white border canvas around the image for framing. Please get in touch with any bespoke requests and I will be happy to discuss your requirements.

As a professional photographer I travel often to the islands of northern Scotland to make my images in places that provoke a profound emotional reaction. The colours, the textures, the wildness of the places and the history are all intertwined in a fascinating, and often bewildering melting pot of sensation that forces me to make art. After moving many times to get to where I should be, I now live on top of a cliff at the northern end of the Isle of Skye. Skye is a large and very beautiful island in the far north of Scotland; a place of inspiration, myth and legend. The beauty of the landscape draws artists and walkers, photographers and lovers of Nature like a magnet, and I am likewise smitten. Skye has a ruggedness and intense green hills that would make anyone pick up a camera or a paintbrush. My work has moved through variations on a theme of movement and colour. Whether the camera moves or I move or the landscape moves it is all the same. Colours, moving blending and soaking into one another create a sense of playfulness, the feeling you get when the wind is in your hair on a bright sunny day. More and more I wonder if there is any end to how one can capture the colours, the lines and the essence of a place. In my studio today, the bright green Hill of the Red Fox is shrouded in a light mist, the wind is howling and the clouds are moving quickly across the hills. It is a scene that makes my heart sing. I hope my work conveys some of the joy I feel when I see these colours, the harmony and the wind singing through it all. It is at least a quest that, hopefully, will last a lifetime.
