When I was a student I worked as the stills photographer on several student films. For one film we were in a Sports Hall and I saw these games markings on the floor, so arranged to go back another day. I was fascinated by the constructivist nature of the different coloured lines which made up the boundaries and areas for the various games played there. I wanted to isolate the lines to give them a calligraphic feel, so used a flash which I knew would not illuminate the total area that my wide angle lens would capture, allowing the floor further away from the camera to go to black. The Gym Floor series was shot in 1980 on film and the original negatives much more recently scanned. Printed on Innova Smooth Cotton High White Matte 315gsm paper using Ultrachrome HDR inks. Paper size 61 x 64cm. Image size 57cm x 57cm. Signed, dated, titled and edition number on verso. Sent with a Certificate of Authenticity.
