My name is Markus Oldenburg – a pseudonym under which I publish my photographic work. Since my childhood, I have been fascinated by painting, drawing and, above all, photography. During my studies at the University of the Arts in Bremen, my focus was on photography. My time with my professor Fritz Dressler was particularly influential, as it was through him that I first came into contact with architectural photography. Today, my photographic focus is on architectural photography as well as on the representation of landscapes, nature and people. I am fascinated by the charm of the supposedly unspectacular – be it in a scene or a portrait – as well as by the play of light and shapes and the possibility of creating something new from it. Digital processing is an indispensable part of my work, even though my roots are in the classic darkroom. Every now and then, though, I still reach for my old Mamiya or Hasselblad and let myself be captivated by the magic of analog photography – even if this is rather the exception.
