About The Artwork

As a lifetime avid reader, books have a special meaning to me. They not only entertain but also give a deeper and broader understanding of the world and it offers an opportunity to re-examine your own views. In this image, the light falling on the pages and in turn being reflected back symbolizes my views on books in our lives. The original has 4:5 aspect ratio and is 20"x25" at 300 DPI

I am a fine art photographer specializing in abstracts, cityscapes, and collages. I started as a landscape photographer fascinated by the beauty I observed around me on canoe trips in Ontario. Coming from densely populated Bohemia, open spaces in Canada felt like a miracle. I wanted to discover the world outside of science, where my life path led me until then, and learn more about art. The ascendance of photography freed painters from the need to create “realistic” images sponsored by the clergy and nobility, and visual art blossomed. I draw my inspiration more from the likes of Turner, Kandinsky, Chagall, Malevich than from photographers. I aim to notice small gems hidden in plain sight and I use digital manipulation to build on and to subvert reality to create images that surprise me and that stimulate my thoughts and emotions. For me, art is a road to discovery and I do not plan to ever stop learning. born: 1949, Prague, Czechoslovakia (at the time) - now the Czech Republic live in: Toronto, Canada
