ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For me, it's not whether or not a photo image needs a mat or two or not, but rather do the two versions - matted & unmatted - satisfy two needs. And for me, it is rare I can't see of the value of both. I'm not even sure, in art circles, if this an issue; like if one version is considered more appropriate as art. For me, when I used to frame images for folks, it didn't matter; folks seems to, as per their needs and likes, prefer one or the other, and on occasion, both. This rendition, with the larger darker mat, rimmed to the inside with tones of the infant sunrise, I think I like as much because it reminds me of how I felt, standing alone in the near dark, seeing the creaking turning of the earth regaining its source of light and life, revealing the massive sleeping silhouette of Vermont's Mt Mansfield. And for my painted rendition a year later ( 2018 ) I did make one significant visual change, maybe, I'm thinking now, to reflect my starkly solo stance in the dark of dawn, camera in gloved hand; timer set on my camera to offset the shivering in my Texas-born body, lol!

082124 update - My earliest memories of making art were my early school years, 1st - 3rd grade, watching colors from crayons and watercolors dance with reflections from the light across rough bumpy paper 😊 I'm still working with that fascination, alternating between smooth and rough, lines and blocks of color. It's best to say, at nearly 74 years of age, I'm finally beginning to accept I don't like doing only fields of color, or line-work, or abstract or representational. So here at Saatchi Art, I present my smorgasbord of work in differing mediums or styles - but I do think what has always persisted is - my sense of awe with life - internal, external, and mingled.
