ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I love hiking in the forest. But I'm a gardener and a landscape architect and have appropriate ecological knowledge. I am aware of the connections in the different scales of the perspectives. When I saw this new way in, I had to launch the drone and record the situation. And am myself a benchmark to clarify the dimension of the new path shown here. In times of climate change, we need new ways in forest management and forestry. The tree species our ancestors chose will not function safely in the future. The forest has to be converted to ensure economic livelihoods, and new paths have to be found, laid out and walked. But from the point of view of soil protection, the path shown here is a disaster: The soil was driven over with huge machines the size of an articulated bus in the city. All the rules of good professional practice have been ignored. It is a negative example of a way of working that is still common in forestry, which damages the soil formation processes and the life forms involved for centuries, and thus permanently reduces the productivity of the soil. This is where art begins for me. She has to polarize. It has to be unpopular for it to be discussed intensively. Art needs to be uncomfortable and sarcastic, and to pull us out of our usual perspective just enough to start questioning things. This is also an image I will look at with great satisfaction for decades and will show whenever possible. Some people will say "oh, how nice", professionals will grin and say "... new ways in forest management", and those responsible for the working methods shown "... that bastard."
