ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For me, a wooden pier on a beach takes me back to childhood summers on the South Carolina coast. Perfectly architectural, the blurred movement of the water, it's the dream I always want to live in. Black and white coastal photography has such a classic, elegant feel and it fits any space. I almost always see the shoreline in monochromatic in my heart and mind.

Apryl Roland is a wanderer with a camera. Her photography journey began in adolescence with a strong desire to document her life. Getting degrees in French and Communication, photography remained a labor of love, her favorite hobby. Traveling the world with her family as a child sparked fascination and wonder that only photography could really capture. She learned to snap quick, there was no time left in trying to keep up. It remains a key influence in her style, understanding the truth of the moment and grabbing it. Apryl began selling her work in 2013 as Pause Picture, honing in on the niche of travel photography. Her favorite aspect of this niche is the connection she has with her collectors - the shared love of the scene. Thinking about their possible stories and their lives when she captures the shot, she's really capturing a part of their history or their future dreams. Apryl's work is focused on the story. There is a moment when what would be an ordinary photograph turns into commentary. She is chasing that moment. Always. Her work is featured in spaces all over the world including hotels, hospitals, offices, homes, and on TV sets. As seen in: The Ritz Carlton - Washington DC, Netflix's Original Series What/If, Hot Topic, Amazon Corporate, CB2 (Crate&Barrel 2) The Beau Rivage, Vanderbilt University, among others. Apryl Roland is based in Winston-Salem, NC.
