About The Artwork
NEON REIGN Neon Reign is an idea of mine and is the working title of this portfolio. I am walking in the rain one evening in the city. The neon lights are coming on as people leave for home or tidy up after a long day. Early revelers are on the streets with late shoppers. The Sony is set up to capture the blurred figures and lights. The artefacts created by the stressed processor are the point of this project. The last thing I want are perfect shots or sharply focused images. Down streets of shops I walk shooting from the hip, unnoticed by passers by who become the stars of the show. Windows provide another point of reflection. many shots fail but the ones that work work well. Experiment now... while you still can... Jaques Henri Lartigue "Jacques Henri Lartigue was a French photographer and painter, known for his photographs of automobile races, planes and Parisian fashion female models." Is an inspiration here. These images are of fleeting moments in time. Nothing is posed, planned or prepared... just shot on the hoof... Memory... nothing precise...

My paintings are imagined rather than observed. They are expressive and colourful. It's all about the painting process, applying colour, using texture, making marks. the texture on the surface. The paintings develop over time. They may appear finished at one point but then later are reworked. The work you like may have been several other versions during its lifetime. My enduring influences are many but include mostly Turner, Rembrandt and Rothko. All my paintings are painted around the edges and therefore may not need framing.
