About The Artwork

The multiple meaning of reflection on one side as a mirror image of reality and on the other side, the contemplation of the past and of our thoughts and feelings is what inspired the visual concept for these photographs. The daunting, ‘other’ reality that is found in the reflective surfaces that surround us has always been one of my every day joys. I always look for them, and I see them everywhere. I see the beauty in all the small things and my desire to share this beauty with the world is what inspired me to become a photographer. In the reflections, a pavement becomes a starry sky, normality twists around itself into something bizarrely familiar. . Turning the images around creates an immersive fantasy world that lies just beneath the watery surface. This series of images began in the summer of 2016 as a mindless joy to myself, but has since become a window into another reality, which opens up to those that take the time to see. One world becomes many. In the otherworldly reality of reflections we get to experience a new dimension of ourselves. The subjects are at the same time part and apart from us, they become multidimensional on a two dimensional surface. We can almost derive what lies below the surface but we can never be sure. We can see the likeness on the surface, a copy of the truth that remains an illusion.

I was born in Slovakia, grew up in Germany, spent my twenties in Botswana and am currently living in Sweden. Like many other third culture children I find the concept of home and belonging a difficult one and those ideas are what drives most of my work. My work is mainly about dissolving reality, through reflections and repetition as well as though the use of halftone patterns in my painting.
