ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I've long been doing a serious of found scenes close to roads, within reach every day if you stop and look. This scene is the Snoqualmie River, near North Bend, a few steps from the back road. I find a relaxation and romance of the simple black and white, bringing a sense of serenity to a busy mind.

As an artist and art photographer, I like to convey a sense of time and place, and emotion in my work. What motivates me to create art is color, beauty and a sense of fulfillment. And photography is my rock - the sense of being out in the world being in my right place, and creating works in post that fit the feeling. What you'll find available here are prints offered by Saatchi, quality fine art prints. For photography, I had for inspiration all the magazines I poured through growing up, the photographers all bringing the world to my eyes - LIFE, LOOK, National Geographic - where the pictures spoke volumes about the experience. I am not a technical photographer, I always get too enthralled with capturing scenes to stick with the technical aspect, I am an artist and look from that perspective, use photography as a tool. Much work I do in post. Photography came first, in childhood with my first camera at age 6. Studying painting and art later, in my 30s took my first art class, and it changed me, filled me with more, spent 10 years learning more, and photography became a tool for the artist, one I love. Painting works with me from the inside, photography from the outside. The paintings are inspired by multiple artist, the color field painters, transcendental painters, the work emotive, simple yet complex with layers of paint muted by mixing many colors together and scrubbed, manipulated, to achieve a layered, atmospheric look. My landscapes are not based on anything real except how we may read a landscape from a distance off - the barest hint, a sense of landscape. All my works stem from that sense, the still lifes, portraits of objects that have a life of their own and their relationships with each other. The abstracts conceived as we sense the past with its many layers. It's important to respect time and age and their effect on us.
