ABOUT THE ARTWORK

An analog work that was created with a camera obscura. A medium format strip is used as a recording medium, the lengths vary, the width is fixed. Thematically, the work deals with the gray winter and the need for warmth. A wintry landscape is shown, framed by the mask of the analog film, on which traces of my wood stove are manifest. The work is based on the thesis that we have lost touch with materials through digitization, which is why I work haptically with the analog film carrier, cut it in an unusual way and leave external traces of my wood-burning stove, which show up in the form of colored surfaces.

In my artistic work I pursue two photographic perspectives. One concerns seeing and the situational reaction to external processes, for which I use digital photography. On the other hand, I work analogue, with the camera obscura and sheet films as recording media. This allows me a technical flexibility in the generation of images that cannot be implemented with digital photography. In contrast to the former, these images are created in the head and are not based on sight. The origin of the images lies in an introspection, which I then experimentally transfer technically to the medium of photography. Both objective information and subjective experiences, comments, emotions and sensory impressions play together and allow us to speak of socially critical and culturally relevant topics.
