Mark Peter McKnight refers to the mystery and grandeur of the Pacific Northwest as the backdrop of his life. Early on, camping forays with his parents along the Olympic/Cascade range trails were the highlight of each Summer. Through this seminal exposure, the ghostly mist of the Northwest's wilds seeped into his marrow, later returning to his images. At age 15, McKnight was gifted his first camera, his father’s classic, 35mm Voigtländer. Immediately, McKnight was capturing images, discovering the seduction of the frozen moment. Sequestering himself in the red-glow of the darkroom - that chemical-perfumed space, where images magically faded-up through developer bath and seized their existence along with his attention. The hook was set. Presently a working Director of Photography of 30+ years, McKnight has primarily focused on the art of camera movement, choreography of action and manipulation of light, in respect to their unique contributions toward supporting story. Today, he is ever more drawn back to the solitary, meditative power of the still image. Within the silent, frozen frame, story abundantly resides, the unseen radiates... McKnight lives with his wife, Deborah and works in Indianola, WA.
