ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Part of my new project for 2024, called Transience, where I am exploring the circle of life and imperfect beauty through plants, by attempting to capture the fleeting, transcient moments in time/life using the 4 elements. For each flower or plant I delve into its history, associated Folklore and myths, meanings and uses to build up a personality of the flower. I then create images based on some of the information, using the psychology and meanings of colours to support the story, as well as other techniques such as different applications of liquid mediums or smoke etc. Spring awakening - Emergence Photographed specifically for Ostara ( 2nd celebration of the year in the pagan wheel of year) which is a celebration of the start of Spring ( much like Easter time), the promise of new life, new blooms and warmer days to come. Daffodils are often associated with this festival and here they are depicted coming out of the darkness of winter and into Spring, towards the warmth of sunshine, new life and abundance. I used the colours associated with this celebration for this series. - White, yellow and greens mainly.

I am a creative photographer with a love for photographing botanical subjects, insects, frogs, reptiles, pretty much most close up nature. But I photograph much of it at home, in my mini home studio. I have always been inspired by folklore, fantasy, paganism and fairy tales, so it is no surprise that this has influenced my photography. More recently in my Transcience project, a botanical photography project where I build up a personality of a plant based upon its history, meanings, uses, folklore and myths, then create images based upon some of the information. I create fleeting moments which cannot be replicated, using fluids or smoke, with colours and techniques to help tell the story.
