Submerged flowers - Hyacinths Print

Hyacinthus Part of my new project for 2024, called Transience, where I am exploring the circle of life and imperfect beauty through plants, by attempting to capture the fleeting, transcient moments in time/life using the 4 elements. For each flower or plant I delve into its history, associated Folklore and myths, meanings and uses to build up a personality of the flower. I then create images based on some of the information, using the psychology and meanings of colours to support the story, as well as other techniques such as different applications of liquid mediums or smoke etc The hyacinth flower symbolizes the themes of love, rebirth, and the transcendence of death. Each spring, the blooming of the hyacinth represents the undying love Apollo had for Hyacinthus and reminds us of the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth. Hyacinths are linked to lots of folklore, from this story alone it is linked to love, rebirth, death, power, beauty and jealousy, sorrow and mourning. My shoot with the Hyacinths covered several of these in my voice of colours , white for rebirth, divinity and purity of love, pink for love, some greens for jealousy - although barely visibly, you can see how it stained some petals in this one, I ended the session with lots of black to signify mourning and death.
