Gabe Sheen teaches photography at Hongik University, Seoul, which is one of the most prestigious art schools in South Korea. He also works for an influential art magazine, Arts and Culture (monthly), as a senior editor and columnist. As a photographic artist, he thinks that there are some undeniable essences to human life: ambiguity, difficulty, and mortality. For him, these limitations are all about human consciousness. Sheen believes that he is nothing at all without consciousness; he affirms, appreciates, and depicts it through his works. His primary medium is based on the historic Gum Dichromate Process, supported by modern technologies of color separation and digital negatives, which provide handmade and watercolor beauty. Sheen graduated from the Academy of Art University (AAU) in San Francisco for an MFA degree in photography with the President's Honor of a full scholarship and Magna cum Laude. So far, his work has been featured in art contests, exhibitions, and magazines over forty times in the North America and in Europe. These have included the 1st and 2nd placement awards in the 2009 American Art Awards (juried by the 20 most influential art dealers and galleries in the United States such as Park West Gallery in Michigan), Prix de la Photographie Paris, International Photography Awards, International Aperture Awards, Black and White Spider Awards, Photographer's FORUM, Professional Photographers of America, Photographic Society of America, and so on.
