ABOUT THE ARTWORK
There is a small community of craftsmen outside of Japan that are trained in the techniques of Japanese joinery using authentic methods and tools. I've spent time with them to see the methods and document their yearly gathering from around the world. This was sparked by my own interest in the topic and workshops I've taken on the subject. Here you see an example of how logs are cut into useful standard sizes at the mill the event was held. The texture is gripping and vivid.
