About The Artwork

BROKEN HUES Series of photos taken with my broken phone. It all began as a personal ritual during the pandemic. I was recently moved to a new city, which was nothing but trees, haze, and silence, and I found myself unable to express my emotions verbally for months. So, I would go out to capture images of things things I found to be beautiful. My phone became a companion through which I could communicate every feeling without saying a word. This experience reminded me of the first time I fell in love with photography at 13 years old. A schoolmate asked me to take a photo with her new phone, which was the first snapshot-camera phone. I found myself taking one after the other, completely captivated by its immediacy, and the pixelated imperfections of each image. I was so obsessed with that new 'technology' that I would borrow her phone during school breaks, just to take photos of visually pleasing things. Flowers, the trees, the haze and the silence of my hometown. \ 'Times are connecting again' – I would whisper in my solitude. --- Perhaps it's the shattered surface of my phone that keeps reminding me that broken is beautiful if you observe the harmony from its new reflection of the world. A new order of rules, broken hues blurring the lines of reality. Whichever way, I am glad these images make you feel something and would be happy for you to have them in your space.

A question about space and time was enough for Jon Jacobsen to create a universe of his own. Self-taught, his work contains graphic, narrative images utilizing symbolism and the surreal through a mix of photography, digital art, illustration and filmmaking. With two solo shows and several participations in exhibitions and Fashion Film Festivals, he has directed projects for London and New York Fashion Week, music campaigns and fashion editorials; and has been acknowledged by magazines around the world for his approach to the human body as a connector between the real and fantasy. He was part of the show “Contemporary Young Artists” at the Visual Arts Museum (MAVI) in Chile, and was chosen to debut his work at the first edition of PLAY at PULSE Contemporary in Miami, during Art Basel Week. Jacobsen was an artist-in-residence at SHOWstudio (UK) receiving mentorship from its founder and director Nick Knight, and sponsor support by the British Council.
