About The Artwork

In his latest series ‘In Relation’, human relationships to one another play an important role. ‘In Relation’ is a series of still lives inspired by contemporary family pictures en old family portraits en still lives from the old masters. By the photo format and alignment of the bottles and glasses, these are getting something human. He is giving power to the pictures by letting the colors contrast to each other or just letting them cancel each other out, creating a poignant rest in the picture. Ron wants to show another side of families. He makes hidden damages within the families visible. The glass is a metafoor for the vulnerability en gifs the picture his static stilled character. The photo's are printed on high quality bariet photo paper sticked on aluminium with hanging hardware. In front of the live picture you have to look twice if it's a photo or a painting

Ron Greve grew up in The Netherlands around Emmen within a family with an alcoholic father and a none protecting mother. After his high school periode he moved to Zwolle to study. Zwolle is still his homebase from where he explores the world and he has got his studio. Because of his family situation, he was always looking for recognition and acceptation. A vulnerable boy that fled in his own imaginary world en was afraid to show his vulnerability for a long time. That was hoping to be seen as he felt from the inside. He wasn’t brought up with art, but his girlfriend who was often busy with art stuff, took him on the age of 17 to a museum and then he knew that he wanted to become an artist. He wanted to convert his well developed fantasy into beautiful things. He wanted to leave the world something of himself and matter. After a year of hard work on his portfolio, he was admitted to 2 art schools. He choose to go to Artez Institution of the Arts in Zwolle where he studied sculptor. After his education, Ron got involved with the logistics around theater and rock. Working in this business, brought him the love for scenery and theatrical settings. Already during his education, the camera was one of the main tools for his visual expression. He also took the camera on the many international theatre and rock tours he was on. Ron took many pictures of the concerts he was working with, but also took his moments to make use of the existing scenery and to photograph his own settings. Yet he felt more and more the need to fully focus on photography and in 2016 he took the final step to settle as a freelance photographer under the name of RG fotowerk. As a professional photographer the focal points of Ron Greve are on conceptual photography, culinary photography and portrait photography. He is inspired by photographers as there are Erwin Olaf, Gregory Crewdson and Martin Schöller. Besides his assignments, Ron worked on autonomous work. In 2008 he was one of the 10 nominated in the photo competition ‘Let’s Face it 7’ by the London Photography Association with his series ‘Desire’. Working under RG fotowerk, Ron get’s a lot of assignments where he can put in his passion, but yet he thinks the assignments getting a bigger distance from himself. In 2014 he decides to only take the bigger assignments and to focus on a new autonomous series. He is doing research on his initial topics as ‘desire’, ‘stillness’, ‘void’, ‘beacons’.
