About The Artwork

WAITING TO LOAD is another study of the places in between. While LAGTIME came out of the spaces in between moving video, WAITING TO LOAD is a measurement of time in between the creation of an image and the time it takes to come into focus. Each image contains the meditative focal point of the perfect circle of the waiting period, some of them stronger than others. These images were made from random photographs through my Instagram feed on a very slow cell phone connection. It begs the question, when is a photograph a photograph, or at least a finished photograph? How many layers are there in one photograph? This series also makes me think of multidimensions, of where the images come from as they come into focus. They are also an experiment with light.

I’ve always considered myself to be a painter – even though my first serious studies were in photography. For a long time my work was compartmentalized, my photography used for note taking and editorial work, my painting used as a force for abstractly expressing my internal thoughts and feelings. Over time, I came to realize that I am very much a multi-disciplinary artist. Not so much because I like to work with multiple disciplines or mixed-media within one piece, but because I like to work with whatever materials are available to me at any given time. So my portfolio as a whole is multi-disciplinary. I seriously returned to using photography as my main form of creating art in 2007. At first it was economics that forced my hand. Now, I think it was fate, or maybe destiny, that made me return. No matter what the medium, the common theme behind my work is my fascination with time and space. I am interested in tearing through the concept of linear time and discovering new ways to use the universe as an art form. Chaos theory and communication are also common themes in my work. * * * * * The story of the how and why of LAGTIME can be found at kimba.com. My two new series, Mono Lake and Waiting To Load, is also documented there. Look in the drop down menu under 'Work/Galleries'. The LAGTIME images are straight up photographs. The only manipulation of these images is done with the original video that the images are captured from. * * * * * KIMBA.COM IMAGES.ARTIST-AT-LARGE.COM
