About The Artwork

Zentastick is a photograph developed using a procedure called Cyanotype that was developed in 1842. It was primarily used to produce copies of drawings or blueprints. This process is done by coating watercolor paper with iron salts to make the paper light sensitive thereby allowing me to develop a negative with the use of the sun to make a positive image. When the paper is washed, it turns a Prussian Blue or Cyan Blue as it's known. This photograph was taken in the Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming and accented with Variegated Italian Copper Leaf. Details: Canson 140lb watercolor paper, Variegated Italian Copper Leaf

I'm starting the second act of my life through the lens of my camera and an interest in the alternative photography processes. I'm particularly interested in Cyanotype and how to modernize it through the use of gold leaf or other mediums I can apply to my pieces to make them more interesting. The Cyanotype process is a very hands on process. I find it very relaxing and zen like and put much planning into each piece that I make. I have always been drawn to the eclectic style, roadside attractions, vintage items, and doing things differently. I particularly love making large format pieces which show how I see things, items with lots of contrast, detail, and imperfections. I love that after raising my two daughters, being known as mom, employee, wife, and care giver, that I am now a college student, photographer and an artist. It's never too late to have a second act in life, I'm following my passion and making something new and something Blue!
