From my series "codex nautica". Taken in 2020 with the camera obscura naturalis. Leonardo da Vinci described the camera obscura, the painters Vermeer and Canaletto used the camera obscura for their preliminary drawings. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and many early artists made observations of nature with her. The first permanent photograph in the world was made with her. The camera obscura has always inspired people and redefined the perception of nature. The series "codex nautica", consisting of 35 photograph, photographed with a lensless camera obscura naturalis, see themselves entirely in this tradition. The focus here is not on the absolute realism of the image, but on the viewer's perception of a mystical, almost magical aura. This is intensified by the blurring caused by the camera, but also by the little light available, which makes places, objects and living beings shine in a strange light. The long time of exposure does the rest. Photographs are created that are different and tempt one to get involved with the situation in thought. A lot of space for your own fantasy and scope for interpretation, included.

Essence of my artistic life: I am and remain curious and always ready to go new ways in photography. Essential projects of the last years are my series "Momentum" which captures the timeless spirit of cities, landscapes, lonely and hidden places and my series "Heimstatt" which shows the timeless living spaces, dreams and places of people without bringing the people involved into the picture. All my black and white camera obscura photograph are also a small reminder of Nicéphore Niépce who in 1826 made the world's first ever photograph with a camera obscura in an over 8 hour exposure.
