About The Artwork

A series where I present, through gestural traits, the strength of contemporary women - mixing different ethnics and colors. The title Geo comes from the presence of primary geometric shapes - symmetrical or asymmetrical - mostly inspired by Brazilian modernist artists of the early 20th century, such as Athos Bulcão (visual arts) and Oscar Niemeyer (architecture). Drawing: digital - giclée print Paper: Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm (certificate) Copies: 20 (each - signature - certificate)

Identity, borders and crossings portrayed through human figures - especially in female representations - are structural points in Luciano Cian's research. An imagery construction that dialogues with his personal experience of origin - and the lack of a sense of belonging. Throughout an almost nomadic childhood, the artist experienced different landscapes, peoples and cultures. Most of his family left the triple border between Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia, departing Mato Grosso do Sul to the south. From there, Luciano Cian moved to the Amazon Region - on the border with Amapá - then moving on to Espírito Santo, São Paulo and then, Rio de Janeiro. From these multiple experiences, the artist invites us to think about the diversity of the mother/earth, who cares for, nourishes and welcomes. His work develops different visuals of the creative force, regardless of a defined origin, since all our ancestry at a given point is collective. Luciano Cian's figures talk about the importance of dialogue, the confluence of origins and their customs, with an inclusive look, proposing a form of connection and bridge. In digital drawing, linoleum engraving or acrylic on canvas/wood, her characters encompass different ethnic groups, with empowerment and gestural power. The highlighted line of the drawings incorporates a simple color palette, with great contrasts. Visual elements, textures and patterns that range from indigenous ornaments to modernist elements reinforce the figure. Luciano Cian was born in 1973 in Lorena, São Paulo, Brazil. He currently lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has worked in partnership with brands such as Ray-Ban (Milan), Hospital Northwell Health (New York), Nescafé (Frankfurt), The Healist (London, New York), Blue Note (São Paulo). He participated in exhibitions at MuBE - Museu Brasileiro of Sculpture (São Paulo), European Institute of Design (São Paulo), Parque Lage School of Visual Arts (Rio de Janeiro), Federal Justice Cultural Center (Rio de Janeiro), Museum of Images of the Unconscious (Rio de Janeiro), Pretos Novos Gallery of Contemporary Art (Rio de Janeiro), Contemporary Collector Gallery (Rio de Janeiro), National Post Office Museum (Brasilia), Galerie Espace L (Geneva, Switzerland), among others
