ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This print is from a hand-pulled lithographic series I entitled "Origins". Using forms from nature and outer-space, I attempted to present an intimate portrait of life continuing. The sand dropping into the desert represents the passage of time and outer-space represents time as being endless. You will also notice I have created a composition that has a strong geometric structure that is compartmentalized to present small windows into different environments. Each are different, yet at the same time they are related. The print you will receive is signed, titled and designated 1/5. Also be aware the artwork dimensions include the white space of the paper and are rounded to whole numbers.

Creating and teaching art has been a true passion and joy of Nan's for the past 40 years. As an artist she has explored a variety of artistic processes both 3D and 2D including clay and wire sculpture, fiber manipulation, painting, printmaking, drawing, and the digital arts. As a college art professor for over 18 years Nan has designed and taught both traditional studio art courses as well as the digital arts and art history. Her favorite subjects are nature and outer space, as both present a unique perspective that is either finite and grounding or infinite and full of possibilities. Through the use of such design motifs as trees, plants, birds, insects or the stars and galaxies of outer space, she figuratively paints an intimate portrait of our existence that strikes a harmonious universal accord. Through her years of exploration, she has been fortunate to have exhibited her work all over the world in such places as China, Scotland, Japan and the U.S. After retiring from teaching in 2015, she has been heavily involved in pursuing her passion of art making full-time once again and looks forward to sharing her work with you.
