About The Artwork

The concave area is partially embedded in the convex mass. This mass is not a sphere but is rather a product of its dynamic interaction with the concave area contours. The energy moves between the two parts like a pulse, flirting with dichotomies like inside and out, inhalation and exhalation, bud and blossom; and at the same time the contour edge runs clean and fast in its track of infinity separating and defining yet also uniting the pair for a greater cause. The whole, sitting grounded and full of potential energy raises questions of form and space, non-material representation and life itself. The figured area of wood on the right side of the sculpture is the wood surrounding a knot which was cut away. This adds a splash of extra spice and character to the piece in yellow cedar.
