About The Artwork

This is a geometric vase shaped piece. Its inspiration is from the more traditional folks art techniques used in Indian villages in not just pottery but also in paintings and textiles. Which explains why it has a more bohemian look. But somehow, i feel it also has an art deco feel to it! Personally, I have always found geometric patterns to be particularly fascinating... they require skill, concentration, but interestingly, an almost mathematical mind!! Truth be told, I am unsure i can repeat this and i definitely can't make these on a regular basis :)

Aparna has completely reinvented herself - after spending 13+ years in the Corporate world in various global leadership roles across Consulting and Outsourcing in India and Europe, she completely changed gears and devoted herself entirely to her love for ceramics in 2012. She discovered her passion for pottery and ceramics in 2013/14 quite by accident – when someone suggested she balance her stressful corporate life with a calming and therapeutic hobby – studio pottery. She started her lessons with an accomplished and talented potter Monica Grewal in New Delhi and almost immediately, she discovered a passion for Ceramics she never knew she had. Balancing a demanding corporate career with a passion, Aparna took breaks dedicated to pottery and ceramics whenever she could. Back in India for a few years, Aparna went on to learn from one of the most well known Raku specialists in the country, Manisha Bhattacharya. Several years down the road from her first introduction to pottery & ceramics, Aparna gave up her corporate career to set up The Clay Company – an small artist owned company that aims to make the joy & passion of ceramics accessible to anyone interested in working with clay. While teaching is a big part of what TCC does, Aparna's passion lies is creating unique works for decor. She believes that something made by hand is so special, it adds soul and dimension to any space. Her décor pieces are One-Of-A-Kind handcrafted pieces which tend to be more individualistic and bold and all about IMPACT. Impact using scale, and color. A lot of what we do in the décor space is about experimentation. We use various alternative firing techniques to produce non-traditional surfaces and interesting effects.
