Lyth#58 Print

My "Lyth" series sculptures are distinctly one-of-a-kind, each and every one unique. They reflect an urban sensibility and possess a kind of primitive biomorphism. Most of my sculptures include some recycled copper. ”Lyth#58" is a 7" sculpture, made from 1" recycled copper tubing. I think it no coincidence that the "Lyth" series presented itself to me during this age of pandemic. Whereas the forms suggest the abundance of introspection and loneliness so many are experiencing during the lockdowns and social isolation-by-default, the coloration can be viewed as the sublime beauty to be found in getting back in touch with our inner selves in the unfolding of this historic and challenging moment in our lives. Made of 100% copper, brazed with a 5% silver brazing compound, this series' distinguishing characteristics are form and coloration. The chromatics run the gamut from delicate to vibrant. The colors will shift according to the light under which they are viewed -- incandescent lights will heighten the reds; cooler colors (cool white, daylight) will heighten the blues and greens. I've photographed these pieces in a light somewhere in the middle; heights of sculptures are nominal. I varnish all my sculptures to preserve the coloration and prevent chromatic loss and darkening due to oxidation. These should be as vibrant years and decades from now as they are today.
