ABOUT THE ARTWORK

What does it represent? It represents the cross line between two concepts: human and instrument. The instrument measures the proportion of the physical world, and the human conscience measures the proportion of the metaphysical world. What is it? It is the model of a sculpture-project, every “compass man” is a different solution of the sameproject. How is it made? A unique steel frame is folded to make the “skeleton”. On it the clay, mixed with the color pigment, makes the “body”. After that, a “skin” in epoxydic resin gives elasticity and brightness to the sculpture, resulting in a composite-like material.

The compass as a measuring instrument wants to relate to the proporsions of the anthropic and the natural built. By verifying with numerous examples that the angle and the relationship between the parts are concepts not subject to a specific scale or time, it identifyes itselfs as the common denominator of human knowledge.
