About The Artwork

This figure is walking hastily, she is lost in her own world determined to get to where she is going fast. I wanted to convey a feeling of movement in this sculpture. The sculpture is in bronze which is a wonderful medium to capture all the detail which is in the sculpture. The bronze base she is walking on is a an irregular curve to give the feeling of her weaving in and out of people or things in her path. I have placed bronze on a Portland stone base to slightly elevate the figure and give her more a feeling of travel.

Influences Rodin - described sculpture as drawing in space, Giaccometti - exploration the human condition Egyptian and Etruscan Art - Simplicity of line and for their vivid representation of the subject matter's social economic status. Picasso for his light inventive energy. Early figurative sculptures were made in the life room Life drawing important for its rigour Interest in movement and balance Humour light hearted Narrative - each piece tells a story Commissions - enjoy the dialogue and exploration of diverse subject matter Experiences filter through to work eventually
