Rajesh Kargutkar

Rajesh Kargutkar's art navigates the intricate interplay between reality and its representation, spanning diverse mediums including painting, photography, sculpture, and video. His exploration of urban chaos entails meticulous processes of reconstruction and synthesis, drawing inspiration from personal memories, photographs and found images. Through his work, Kargutkar reveals hidden beauty in everyday moments, uncovering intimate narratives within confined spaces.

Kargutkar holds a BFA and an MFA from Sir J. J. School of Art in Mumbai. In 2015, he was invited by the President of India to join in the prestigious Artist-In-Residence Programme at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He has been honoured with numerous awards, including the Lalibai Dharmdas Bhambani Scholarship from Bombay Art Society, Maharashtra State Award, the National Scholarship (Visual Arts) from Indian Ministry of Culture, the Bendre Foundation Award, and the Indo-Swiss Student Award from the Consulate General of Switzerland. He splits his time between Mumbai, India, and Geneva, Switzerland.
