Rebecca Chewning

Creating within the framework of Abstract Expressionism, Rebecca’s recent work combines the vocabulary of Action and Color Field painting. Each piece is prepped with a base of poured house paint to create immediate texture, followed by several layers of oil paint. Most of these layers are applied as a thick paste with a palette knife, while others are brushed on as a transparent stain, exposing the coats of paint underneath. This process offers an opportunity to explore the medium with experiments in surface and color.
