About Richard Simpson

Although primarily a documentary and fine art photographer, with an extensive publication and exhibition history, I have also directed broadcast documentaries (as R F Simpson) and written fiction (as J J Salkeld.)

These days I see myself as much as a printmaker as a photographer, since I don't just modify the tones of my prints but often selectively colour them too, even when they are technically still 'black and white' images.

The works featured here are from recent and current projects, exploring everything from issues of national identity (The Debatable Lands) and global warming (SEA LEVEL) to an enduring interest in change and mutability (mono no aware), but in a very personal way. Take a look through the entire portfolio and you will soon pick up many of my key themes and motifs - plus some recent work reacting to the Covid-19 pandemic. Check back regularly, because I will add new work as it is made.

Please note that all limited edition prints are made in our own studio, under my supervision, and are giclee prints, using top quality archival inks and papers. I am best contacted via this website, or richardfsimpson@gmail.com.
