I am a British-born, Brooklyn-based artist and writer. I have worked as an artist since the early 1970s and enjoyed parallel careers in the contemporary art world for almost as long. I have worked as an art journalist, run galleries and performance spaces, founded and operated an art publishing house, written books, curated exhibitions and festivals, run an art school, and taught pretty much every subject you will find in one.
I studied Fine Art at the University of Leeds in the north of England. I followed studio and art history courses, wrote a thesis on Italian Futurist Performance, staged a Final Exhibition of conceptual work and performance documentation, and at the end of the four year degree course I was awarded a B.A. (Hons.) First Class, which is the highest classification available.
