Saumya Gupta

From an early age I have been involved with art, from the simple rangoli designs every holi to origami, card making, candle making for school exhibitions. There has always been an insight to create something different and meaningful. However, it was not before Grade 9 when I realized that over the years it had become my passion. And since then there has been no looking back.

Doing the Art and Design module in IGCSE, was a foundation to explore different mediums - water colour, poster colour, acrylic, printmaking and even sculptor design. Using these mediums with an understanding of the different art styles gave me a better understanding of creating artwork. I believe that a piece of work does not only require skill but also an idea and the correct implementation of the idea. It entails analysis and interpretation. As correctly said "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." by Thomas Merton, I believe that art has served as a medium to express myself. As I am not an extrovert, I found it very hard to speak my mind. Perhaps now my artwork defines me.
